The “Canon and The Journal – A Scrapbook” has been updated
The “Canon and The Journal – A Scrapbook” has been updated to include all relevant articles and letters in the Journal from its inception to Summer 2024. Regular updates will continue in the future.
Whilst this exercise was being undertaken it became apparent that certain folders had become too large and cumbersome and, whilst be useful for collecting data, had really ceased to fulfil their original function – that is to provide the general reader and the serious student of the Canon with readily accessible reference points.
These folders have now been re-classified into smaller more manageable ones and all footnotes to the stories and the novels edited and revised. The new folders are:
| Sherlock Holmes – Background Notes | Sherlock Holmes – Detection and Forensic Science | Sherlock Holmes – Hats, Clothing and Disguises |
| Sherlock Holmes – Knowledge of Literature | Sherlock Holmes – Religion and Philosophy | Sherlock Holmes – Retirement? |
| Sherlock Holmes – Travel and Overseas | Sherlock Holmes – What’s in a Name? | Sherlock Holmes and Science |
| Sherlock Holmes and Sport | Sherlock Holmes and The Press | Sherlockian Buildings – London |
| Sherlockian Buildings – Overseas | Sherlockian Buildings – The Diogenes Club | Sherlockian Buildings – The English Shires |
| General Topics of Sherlockian Interest |
I have also extended the “Mrs. Hudson” folder to become “Mrs. Hudson and ‘Those Below Stairs’” and “Children of the Canon” to become “Children (And Irregular Children) of the Canon.”
It is hoped that this exercise can now increase the enjoyment and knowledge of members in their reading of the Canon.
