The Society’s ‘special interest groups’ are open to all members and offer events other than the regular annual programme of face-to-face events that the Society has traditionally run. Many of our members live away from London and find it difficult to attend London-based events, so some of the groups meet remotely. There are also many events of interest to Society members that are run by other organisations, or other occasional events, which are covered by The Reformed Diogenes Club.
The Well-Readed League is a new online book group which meets periodically to discuss Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes-related stories. So far the group have met to discuss A Study in Scarlett and The Sign of Four. On the night of the event attendees are broken into sub groups for discussion, and then brought back collectively to share our thoughts.
Demand is high and places are limited, but a wait list is in effect and capacity increased where possible to accommodate as many members as possible. Do come and join us!
The Reformed Diogenes Club is the name for our informal events programme. In the Canonical Diogenes Club you were not permitted to speak. And the Club was restricted to men. The aim of the Reformed Diogenes Club is that you meet fellow Sherlockians (other Society members), attend events and participate in activities together, talk to each other, and get to know one another better.
Given it is now 2025, The Reformed Diogenes Club is also open to all genders. So come along to one of our events and get to know your fellow Society members a bit better.
The Casebook Collecitve is the name for the online group set up to organise creative workshops and publications for the Society, under the leadership of Holly Turner. Plans are in place to roll this out further in 2025.

The Games Afoot is the name given to our occasional pub evenings for Society members and their guests, offering entertainment and the opportunity to get together and get to know other members of the Society informally at little cost.
The Sherlock Holmes Society of London, isn’t just a hub for literary appreciation, it also maintains a lively tradition of Victorian-style cricket matches. The Society organizes these nostalgic cricket games where members don period-appropriate attire and play according to late-Victorian rules.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was as passionate about cricket, playing for school and local clubs, later representing teams like Norwood, Portsmouth, the Allahakbarries, an amateur side founded by J.M. Barrie alongside figures like Kipling, Wodehouse, and Milne and the prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), appearing in ten first-class matches from 1899 to 1907.
