Summary

Grand hotels & Holmesian history
We’ll be accommodated in the glorious central: Hotel Edouard VII, 39 Avenue de l’Opéra.

Costumes, camaraderie & great food
Begin in style with a period costume “fashion show”, then a full‑costume opening dinner at the legendary Train Bleu – one of Paris’s most spectacular historic restaurants.

Paris, as Holmes might have known it
Wander the Passages Couverts, tour the Palais Garnier (Opéra), enjoy lunch at the Café de la Paix, raise a glass at a wine tasting in the Passage Vivienne, and spend an evening at a Baker Street Pub in the Rue des Boulangers – perhaps with a boules tournament in a nearby Roman amphitheatre.

Detectives on the Seine – in full dress
Take to the river for a costumed dinner cruise on the Seine aboard Capitaine Fracasse, watching Paris’s great monuments slide by at sunset.

A day of honour – all day in costume
A Sherlockian session hosted by the British Council / University of London Institute or British Embassy (details in progress), followed by the Musée de la Légion d’Honneur, a special belated presentation to Sherlock Holmes of the insignia of the Légion d’Honneur and Napoleon’s tomb. Close the day with a private dinner at Les Noces de Jeannette – music, songs, and instruction in the “Sherlock Holmes” dance included.

Farewell Paris
On Monday, depart at leisure or follow our suggestions for a final stroll through Rue Montorgueil and some of the favourite Parisian haunts of the Illustrious Client, King Edward VII, one of the architects of the Entente Cordiale.

This is our initial outline and remains subject to refinement as we confirm venues and pricing, but we expect places to be in high demand once booking opens.

Thursday 15th April

Eurostar arrival — Under own arrangements
Transfer from Gare du Nord to Hotel — Under own arrangements. Pilgrims will stay in:
- Hotel Edouard VII, 39 Avenue de l’Opéra
Costume required from 16:00 to end of day (“costume lite” option possible for pilgrims who are short on time).
16:00 to 18:00 — 1895 fashion conference and wine tasting atHotel Edouard VII. Costume required (“costume lite” option possible for pilgrims who are short on time).
18:30 to 21:30 — Opening Dinner at Le Train Bleu. Costume required (“costume lite” option possible for pilgrims who are short on time).

Friday 16th April

Costume optional
9:30 to 12:00 — Scavenger hunt in the Covered Passages
12:00 to 15:00 — Phantom of the Opera private guided tour at the Paris Opera*

One group at 12:00, one at 13:30. While one group tours the other has lunch.

15:00 — Meet at Café de la Paix
12:00 to 16:00 — View from Galeries Lafayettes rooftop
Free evening for dinner

Saturday 17th April

9:30 to 12:00 — “Sherlock Holmes: a son of France” Conference at the Library of Crime Literature (BiliPo)
12:30 to 14:00 — Lunch (location TBD)
14:30 to 16:30 — Boules tournament at the Arenes de Lutece (Roman era arena)
18:00 to 21:00 — River Diner Cruise in the “Capitaine Fracasse” riverboat. Costume required.

Sunday 18th April

9:30 to 12:00 — Radio play at the British Council/University of London or Embassy
12:30 to 14:30 — Lunch at Place Dauphine
15:00 to 16:30 — Musée De La Legion D’Honneur (Museum of the Legion of Honour and Orders of Chivalry) (TBC)
19:00 – 23:00 — Dinner at Les Noces de Jeannette and demonstration of Sherlockinette dance. Costume required.

Monday 19th April

Check out of Hotel (luggage can be left there by those not leaving immediately)
Visit of Les Invalides (Napoleon’s Tomb and Army Museum) for those interested or free time and shopping before heading to the train station
Trip home under own arrangement

Cost

The budget cost, excluding travel to and from Paris, will be:

— £1,400 per person for those sharing rooms.

— £1,950 per person for single occupancy.

This will include accommodation at the very appropriate Hotel Edouard VII, close to the Opera House.

At the time of booking a £400 deposit will be payable for each participant (refundable later only if a vacated booking is taken up by someone on the waiting list).

Further payments will be due as follows:

— Second payment of £600 pp for double occupancy and £1,000 pp for single occupancy in early December.

— Calculated balance by end of February.
