The September Symposium at Madingley Hall, The University of Cambridge
4^th – 7^th September 2026

We are delighted to invite members and their guests to our 75th Anniversary celebration Symposium at Madingley Hall, Cambridge from Friday 4^th September to Sunday 7^th September.

Madingley Hall is situated to the west of Cambridge and is the University of Cambridge’s Institute of Continuing Education. The original Hall was built  between 1543 and 1547. Cambridge University purchased the Hall and the Estate in 1948. It boasts an ornamental garden and there are some 1,200 horticultural specimens around the grounds.

Friday evening will commence with a drinks then dinner followed by an after dinner speaker.

After a leisurely breakfast on Saturday morning we will begin our series of talks and presentations. Lunch will be provided in the dining hall.

On Saturday afternoon, an excursion has been arranged to the Cambridge Museum of Technology situated in the town’s Victorian Pumping Station. Prior to the Pumping Station being built, sewage from Cambridge flowed directly into the river Cam. The Museum holds two large Hathorn Davey steam engines. The Museum also has two other exhibits – the Pint Shop, which holds the 1893 Cambridge University Press printing machines, and the Pye Building. The latter is a showcase for the history of Cambridge’s pioneering technology companies – the Pye Group and the Cambridge Instrument Company.

Saturday will close with dinner and speaker.

Sunday morning will commence with breakfast followed by the concluding series of talks and presentations. A farewell lunch will be provided in the dining hall.

Booking is on a first come, first served basis.  As usual, if the event is full, you will be offered the option to join a waiting list.

The cost of the Symposium Weekend is £425.00 per person.

The Society likes to keep a record of its activities, including photographs of our meetings which are published in the Journal and on the Society’s website.  If you do not want to appear in a Society photograph please avoid being in any posed photographs and advise one of the meeting organisers
