Reichenbach Revisited – The Sherlock Holmes Society of London returns to Switzerland!

One of the fixed points in the long history of our Society has been pilgrimages to Switzerland to locations of the many Swiss references in the Canon. Every participant impersonates a character from a Sherlock Holmes story and travels in Victorian costume, truly living the time when it is always 1895. The first such adventure took place in 1968. Others followed in 1978, 1987, 1988, 1991, 2005 and 2012.
These expeditions attracted Sherlockians from around the globe. They featured the unveiling of the Sherlock Holmes Statue sculpted by our member John Doubleday in 1988 and the opening of the Sherlock Holmes Museum in Meiringen in 1991, in which our former Chairman and President, the late Tony Howlett, was a driving force. These pilgrimages created friendships that became the cement of our Society, the clay to make the bricks, to paraphrase Sherlock Holmes.
As part of the 2026 festivities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Society, Council has decided to return to Switzerland with a new pilgrimage, the first in a decade and a half. The 5-day journey will offer an exciting programme beginning in Lausanne and ending in Meiringen. In accordance with our tradition, participants will each bring to life a character of a Sherlock Holmes adventure and will travel in Victorian costume (costume is required for the entirety of the trip). Participants must be members of the Society.
Due to popular demand, we were able to raise the number of participants to 60, but places continue to sell quickly. Our aim is to provide excellent quality of accommodation and a wonderful experience at a sensible price. We have also decided to offer payment in instalments for the convenience of members.
